Adult Support

The Adult Support team looks at ways that adults can get the support that they need, from the Association's support structure, training, Scout Fellowships, publications and other organisations.

All adults in Scouting deserve the best possible support, and the Adult Support Team's job is to help this happen.

Training

The scheme is modular and flexible, concentrating on learning rather than just attending courses. Training can be carried out using a range of methods: one to one, courses, videos, workbooks and e-learning. There are a total of 36 modules covering the skills required for all roles in Scouting.

On taking up your role, you will be allocated a Training Adviser. With them, you decide which modules are appropriate to your role in Scouting. You then agree which of these, you can demonstrate an existing ability in, and how you are going to learn the others. This forms your Personal Learning Plan. When you have completed training on one of your required modules, you simply demonstrate that you are using the skills to allow your Training Adviser to sign it off.

On completion of all your modules, you will be awarded your wood badge. From that point, you have to complete 5 hours ongoing training each year in topics useful to your Scouting role.

The Scout Association's web site now contains some very useful Learners Resources which provide interactive e-learning or video downloads for a number of the training modules.

Personal Learning Plan

The Personal Learning Plan identifies the modules that you need training and validating for, and those that you only need to validate. Your Training Adviser will help you with completing it.

[PDF] PLP Instructions

There are five steps to completing the PLP:

1. Identify modules appropriate to your role

2. Identify those that you can validate now

3. Decide how you will train in those that you cannot

    validate now

4. Decide timescale for completing training

5. Write results in the PLP

Your Personal Learning Plan must be agreed with your Training Adviser.

The Summary PLP is completed by the Training Adviser and passed to their Local Training Manager(LTM). This form should be updated regullarly as training and validation is completed.
