Leslie Sell County Scout Training & Activity Centre (Bromham)

 

The Leslie Sell Activity Centre is an ideal site for those wishing to experience real Scout Camping. It easily lends itself to backwoods style, Patrol or Troop camping with a variety of woodland or field sites available. The site has a permanent camp-fire circle and an open air chapel .

Bromham is open all the year round for camping, Pack Holidays, training courses etc. The site comprises of 8 acres of grass and 18 acres of woodland, with areas suitable for most types of camping (plus caravans). There is an ablution block on the camping field with hot and cold water, hot showers and flush toilets. Water is available from stand-pipes around the field.

 

Wood fires may be used in most areas of the woodland and wet/dry pits may be dug in some areas. Altar fires should be used on the main camping field.

 

A Storm Hut is available on the main camping field. Facilities in the storm hut include: mains electricity; chairs & tables.

 

 

 

Dormitory Block

The 26 bed dormitory block consists of ten rooms with a double bunk in each and a larger room with 3 double bunks. All are complete with mattresses but no bedding or pillows. All rooms have individual heaters, wardrobes, chest-of-drawers, bedside cabinet and rugs. There are toilet facilities (hot and cold water) - (hot showers are available in the adjacent Training Centre).

The kitchen comprises of a double drainer stainless steel sink unit, electric cooker, fridge and freezer, crockery, cutlery and utensils (to cater for up to 30 people). There is a fully carpeted lounge area with tables and chairs for dining etc. A maximum of 4 people may sleep in the lounge area (camp beds available on request).

There are two entrances and three exits to the building which is fully equipped with centrally controlled smoke detectors.

 

Training Centre

The Training Centre comprises a large main hall (pictured left), committee room, toilets (including disabled), hot showers and a kitchen with a large gas cooker, fridge, fridge/freezer and all utensils (list available on request). Gas fired warm air central heating is available for the winter months.

 

It is suitable for training courses and conferences, social events and accommodation for camps (including emergency wet weather use for Cub Scouts).

Tables, chairs, benches and camp beds.

A large frame ‘mess’ tent can also be booked by campers.

 

Providore

The site Providore is normally open on Saturday and Sunday 10:00 to 11:00, but other times are available on request to the manager, who can be contacted at the email address below.

The centre is situated in Bromham village, Bedfordshire, 4 miles NW of Bedford. Map Ref: TL003515 (Sheet 153).

Approach from the east via the A428, Village Road and Molivers Lane, or from the west via the A428, Grange Lane and Springfield Drive. (Follow signs to Bromham Village from the by-pass). The site is on the left hand side at the western end of Molivers Lane .
