A long-serving and much loved member of the Scout community in Someries District, Cavan had four passions. One was his family, the second his Scouting, the third his love of steam trains and the last his support for his local church, St Christopher’s in Round Green. |

Red Tornado Cubs From Shefford Storm Windsor Castle And Chief Scout Bear Grylls It was a day to remember for nine Cub Scouts from the 1st Shefford Scout Group when they paid a special visit to the annual St George’s Day parade at Windsor Castle. They lived up to their name the Red Tornados when they not only stormed the castle walls but way laid Chief Scout Bear Grylls during his walk-about after the parade.

Dani Bailey is a Guider who also works at Butterfly World in Chiswell Green. She has organised a series of evening tours of the collection at reasonable rates for members of Scout Groups and Guide Companies. It's a project that has attracted the likes of David Bellamy and David Attenborough.

Have you heard of Hertfordshire's Peak Assault?
15th - 17th October 2010 |
Peak Assault is Hertfordshire Scouts' most challenging competition organised for members of the Scout Association aged 14 and over and is now in its 43rd year. The competitors must use their orienteering skills, physical ability and mental strength to navigate their way across unforgiving terrain 'clipping' as many checkpoints as they can within the allotted time. The competitors must also carry all the equipment they will need for a night on the hills. Full details of what the competition entails and its history can be found online at www.peakassault.org.uk. O.D.1 is a Westerly Oceanlord 41 operated as a Sail Training Vessel for Explorer Scouts. Based in Portsmouth Harbour, her normal cruising ground for weekends is the Solent, with longer trips giving the chance of trips further afield. O.D.1 normally sails with a qualified Skipper and Mate and a crew of 7 Explorer Scouts, plus one Leader.

Muslim Scouts Give TV Audience A Taste Of The Future A Muslim Scout Group, based in Luton, has given the region’s TV audience a taste of the future of Scouting. They appeared on BBC Look East to show how to construct a model of the solar system as part of the new Cub Scout astronomer badge to be launched next month. This is one of 42 new badges introduced by the Scouts to make the movement more relevant to today’s society. |
