Dear Colleagues,
I have now received official confirmation that the County has been allocated a full contingent Unit of 4 leaders and 36 Young People for this Jamboree.
The 22nd World Scout Jamboree will be hosted by Sweden in 2011 and will take place from 27 July to 7 August. Based on the theme ‘Simply Scouting’ the Jamboree will be held on the fields of Rinkaby, not far from the town of Kristianstad, in the province of Skåne, southern Sweden. In practice those attending will need to be available from the 20 July to 14 August as there will be 4, as yet undefined, pre and post Home Hospitality.
Many thousands of young people will camp, live and work alongside each other for 10 days and will come from a variety of different cultures, backgrounds, and religions. Together they will celebrate what unites them and learn what they can do together to help build a better world.
Ideally the contingent leaders will:
In addition the leadership should have experience of ‘Greenfield’ camping in line with the theme of this jamboree.
The job of Unit leadership is time consuming, demanding and very challenging, but extremely rewarding.
Details of cost per participant (inc. leaders) have not been finalised.
It is our intention to finalise the application process in the next couple of weeks such that we can confirm appointments by the end of July. At this time we will also be seeking other adults who are prepared to work with the team in supporting fundraising, logistics etc. It is anticipated that application forms and processes will be available on the County Website from mid May.
A few other points to note:
Full details of the process will be advised then but you may wish to start to consider what support, practical, financial etc you will be able to provide to any young person selected from your District. It is hoped that every District will be able to send at least one young person.
Any questions should be directed to me at this time.
Yours sincerely,
John Duley County Commissioner
