All 34 Cub Scouts from the Neptune Scout Cub Pack in Biggleswade have just delivered their verdict on the tastiness of the town’s chip shops. In an exciting survey these budding Jamie Olivers toured the town one evening eating chips as they went and rating each portion for crispness, dryness, taste and value for money. After a two-hour trek through the town, and several portions of chips, their overwhelming verdict was that Johnnies Plaice in the market square ticked all the boxes and deserved a five star rating.
Cub Scout Lucy Harradine aged 9 said, “Chips are my favourite food. I like them with sauce but for the survey we had them without. I gave Johnnies 5 out of 5 for taste. They were crispy on the outside and soft and dry on the inside. Yummy. I could eat loads.”
Cub Scout Leader Nick Gurney said, “We tried a chip shop survey 20 years ago when I was a Venture Scout and we had a great time. All the chip shops in the town took part in this good natured poll and we all agreed that Johnnies was a worthy winner. The Cubs enjoyed themselves and found out a lot more about their town as well.”
Owner Phillip Tse was delighted with his unique award which now has pride of place in his shop. Seven of the 34 Cub Scouts who took part in the survey had a special treat for their photocall. They sampled yet more chips from the award-winning shop and voted them as tasty as ever. The seven were: Melissa Bush, Ciaran Brady, Oliver Dilley, Lewis Harradine, Lucy Harradine, Ethan Ovenden and Daniel Pickering.
