A Cub Scout Leader from the Trinity Scout Group in Leighton Buzzard has earned herself several Brownie points in the eyes of her pack. She has just been invested as their leader 30 feet up a vertical wall at the Group’s 30th birthday camp at Milton Bryan. District Commissioner Matthew Slade-Pedrick who carried out the high level ceremony said, “This was quite been adventure. I have never invested anyone before on a climbing wall. What an experience.” The dare devil leader Linda Thomas said, “What worried me most was hanging on with one hand while making the Scout salute with the other. I have certainly made my mark with all the Cubs who now think I’m Wonder woman!” The birthday party was organised by Group Scout Leader Anne Gray. She said, “The group was actually formed on 24th April 1979 so we were a bit late with our celebrations. But over 100 past and present members attended and enjoyed themselves immensely.” The theme of the camp was Mission Impossible in keeping with the history of the camp site which was a spy centre during the war. Following the James Bond / Mission Impossible theme, all of the activities were based on solving puzzles and following clues and getting out of tight corners - including a wide game, geographical wingdings, putting out a fire, transporting precious cargo and feely boxes which hid all sorts of weird objects.. We had a wonderful team of leaders and parents who helped to put up tents and cooked endless meals. They were even up at 5.30 in the morning to cook breakfast and make coffee. Scout Leader Ken Pearce and his family deserve a special mention. They were the ones who organised the shopping and the cooking and put together many of the activities. Everything about the camp went well, from the wonderful weather to the behaviour of all the children. Some people had never been camping before, and everyone joined in games and activities with real enthusiasm. Having a number of special guests who had been involved with the group across the years made the birthday party very special. Most importantly children and parents said how much they enjoyed it – we have a new leader and many more interested parents who want to get involved.
