It was a day to remember for nine Cub Scouts from the 1st Shefford Scout Group when they paid a special visit to the annual St George’s Day parade at Windsor Castle. They lived up to their name the Red Tornados when they not only stormed the castle walls but way laid Chief Scout Bear Grylls during his walk-about after the parade. The Cubs chatted to him like an old friend, practiced their left handshake on him and even got his autograph which will take pride of place in their headquarters.

Cub Scout Leader Jacqui Mead said, “They talked about nothing else on the journey home and voted it the best day out ever.” She added, “The weather was fantastic and Phil Mann who organised the trip seemed to wave his magic wand over everything. My assistant Morag De-Luca tried to keep order but all that went out of the window when Bear Grylls turned up All the Cubs knew instantly who he was.

“What an adventure. We had an alfresco lunch in Windsor Great Park and met numerous other Scouts from all over the world. We now have contacts in places like Singapore, and Europe as well as nearer to home in Wales. It will help the Cubs with their Global Challenge Badge.”
