Greater London North Scout County is once again inviting all Scout teams from across Bedfordshire to participate in the annual Chiltern 20 Challenge Hike, taking place on Saturday 12th October 2019 in the Chiltern Hills. This event is open to any member of the Scout section born after 12th April 2005. The organising committee has a brand new school for this event which will again be close to a main line railway station. Once again there will be a Junior route of about 15kms and a Senior route of about 20kms. Both routes have been popular during the past few years. This year's routes will take participants through a completely different area of The Chilterns. The online entry database is up and running via our new website www.chiltern20.org/ Last year’s event sold out so don’t delay in entering teams which will again consist of between three to five young people. The County Mountaineering Team is running a ‘walk and talk’ workshop in the Chiltern Hills, aimed at leaders and adult helpers, with particular emphasis on providing navigation help and support for those with teams taking part in this year’s Chiltern 20. This is a chance for a gentle stroll in some beautiful scenery with the added benefit of having one of our team along to answer any questions you may have about maps, compasses and anything else you’d like to know about navigation. You will also have the chance to practice these techniques along the way. The workshop content is completely flexible and can cover anything which will help you to develop both your navigation skills, and your ability to teach navigation techniques to your group, whatever your level of experience. We will meet at Tring railway station at 11.30am and will be back there by 4.00pm. There is ample parking at the station and the times above have been chosen to help those travelling by train.
